Stories To Tell.

Stories To Tell.

I’ve always done it like this, marching to my own football beat, seeing the same things as others just processing them my own way. On Mondays and Tuesdays when the other fellas would come in doing the armchair quarterbacking and coaching thing, commenting on big plays made and missed, my approach was always a little different.

I’d talk about the games, the plays and players … but I’d also think about what was underneath. You see, long before there was an internet, I was piecing stories and the people who make this great game what it is together, reading up on who they were and how they came to be.

Magazines like Street and Smith, Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News, Inside Sports, Texas Football, The Dallas Times Herald and Dallas Morning News and so many more, those were my internet, those were what fueled my passion for this sport. By the start of the college season, I knew who the real contenders were, who was pretending, where each of the top 100 recruits in the land landed, who got it wrong and who definitely got it right.

Same with the pros, I had read enough and cross-referenced to the point where I knew which team would do what and which players would help get it done. Big players make big plays, but every so often, someone obscure, relatively unknown, a little guy so to speak popped up, shocking the world with his play … but not me. I knew his background, where he went to school, class ranking, 40-yard dash time, what made him tick so on and so forth.

I wasn’t surprised at all. I knew he had it in him.

Always loved football, always loved a good story, I wasn’t much to write home about in football, but I’ve always been pretty good when it comes to writing stories. I love history, all kinds of history … maybe because history always has a story to tell. My father introduced me to jazz at an early age and slowly but surely it became my music of choice, providing the soundtrack for my life. Art, man I love art, and my walls play home to a few hundred pieces, generously dispersed in this room or that one. So, when the time came to build merge all my stated passion - history, art, music, and a few other things, I thought long and hard about how to create a meaningful space, a universe if you will, with all those disparate parts and pieces, orbiting around football.

And here we are.
