The Whisperer Remembers ... Byron Hunt.
The Unsung Hero
He never got the glory, the fame and didn’t have the name of the guys he played with but his contributions to the team he was a part of were impressive to say the least. He lined up on the inside and week in, and week out did the dirty work so that those who got the glory, the fame and made the name could do that. For three downs, sometimes four, sometimes more, he checked a box, knocked a few heads, and then went on his way, until the next opportunity to wreak sheer havoc appeared.
His was a thankless job and a constant pounding from tackles and fullbacks devoid of necks, who amounted to nothing more than rolling mounds of muscle and flesh made only to inflict pain and open holes. But here’s the thing…he was the one inflicting the pain and seldom was a hole ever opened when he was on his job. He gave better than what he got and as the game moved into the latter stages, men who outweighed him by 50 pounds, sometimes more wanted … no more.
Today, Whisperer Nation, since he never allowed a hole to be opened let the whole assembly stand and give a rousing round of applause in unison, for the one and only, former New York Giants linebacker supreme … Mr. Byron Hunt.
The Football Whisperer
One voice. No filler. The names stay off the masthead — the work doesn't need them.
