The Whisperer Remembers ... Reggie McNeal.
The Shooting Star from East Texas
A shooting star is often a once in a lifetime occurrence, blazing across the sky in a rush of brilliance that shocks and amazes all at the same instant. Shock and amaze are what this man from Lufkin did whenever he had the ball in his hands. In 2002, Texas signed Vince Young; arguably the best high school player in the nation but Texas A&M signed this man, with some arguing that he, not Young, was the player who should hold the coveted top spot.
He was good enough to get a letter in four sports and when he left Lufkin High, the fabled football powerhouse in East Texas, he was no longer a player. No, he was a legend. His arm was live, his feet were fast too, and they carried him to personal best of 10.35 in the 100 and 21.1 in the 200.
On one fateful afternoon against a highly ranked Oklahoma team, all of those talents came together, and he gave Aggies the world over a glimpse of his undeniable talent. He never reached his full potential but for that one instant…he shocked and amazed, putting on quite the show, one that none of us will ever forget.
Whisperer Nation stand tall and hold your salute firm as we celebrate the talents of the shooting star from East Texas, the one and only former Texas A&M great … Mr. Reggie McNeal.
