Smith, Ann Arbor, Gonzalez, Simmons, bad outfits ... and 6 Other Things.
  1. The jury is still out on whether or not Ole Miss will be a true SEC power for years to come, but after seeing them in action last night against a tough Louisville team, I'm positive they'll be a player this year.

  2. Oklahoma pays a visit to Ann Arbor this weekend in one of two big SEC v. Big Ten battles. So much has been made in recent years about how the Big Ten has overtaken the SEC as the premier conference in the land. Wins by Texas at home and OU on the road could put all that talk to bed.

  3. The Tyler Smith injury is bad news for the Cowboys as he might be their best offensive lineman. They're saying he's out four to six weeks. The good news is that if those projections hold up, he'll be back in time for the showdown with PHI.

  4. NE holding back on doing the inevitable, signing Christian Gonzalez, their all-everything cornerback makes no sense to me. The man has earned his spot as one of if not the highest-paid at his position. Waiting leaves him susceptible to injury and threatens what could be a special season in Foxborough.

  5. Marcel Reed looked good in College Station Saturday night, even though it was only Missouri State. Early has never been his problem. It's what he does, or should I say, what he doesn't do late in the year, that's where the concern comes into play.

  6. In this age of alternative uniforms, some teams simply don't have either the color combination or imagination to pull it off. One of those teams is Wisconsin as their all-red look last night against Notre Dame looked totally wrong.

  7. I don't care how short or tall he is, if I'm an NFL executive, I'm jumping Trinidad Chambliss to the top of my draft board after last night's performance. Some players defy size, weight, speed, and measurables. He's one. Pick him. High.

  8. The way LSU toyed with Clemson this weekend has me thinking the Tigers might be the team to beat. Lane lulled the nation to sleep with his legal case. Meanwhile he's over there cooking up a pot of can't-miss prospects and a team no one will want to face.

  9. Still no signs of football life in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Eric Morris brought his entire, (not really, but you know what I mean), team from North Texas with him when the Cowboys brought him up from Denton. He's a good coach but the Cowboys still aren't a very good team ... they dropped their opener against Tulsa, 24-10.

  10. ATL chose Tua as their starter. Remember when everyone was Tanking for Tua ... now they're taking bets on how long he lasts before Penix takes the gig ... life sure does come at you fast.

  11. Collin Simmons will be the key to Texas having any chance to exact revenge on Ohio State. That Longhorn secondary will have their hands full with Smith, Inniss, and the young freshman Henry.
