COLLEGE
The Whisperer Remembers ... Dee Dowis.
A Backfield Wizard of the Highest Order
The service academies have always held a special place in the hearts of true college football fans as the players on those sidelines embody the very best our nation has to offer. They sacrifice, laying their bodies on the line in the truest sense of the phrase, making it nearly impossible to root against them. They’ve grown in popularity of late and the way they’re putting it points, I couldn’t help but drift back to the 80’s … when this man ran arguably the most exciting wishbone offense this side of Norman, Oklahoma.
He was quick, some might even call him fast. A wizard with the ball is what he was and if you were playing in the front seven when the play began you knew that once false move and he’d be deep into your secondary, threatening to score or worse, standing in the end zone. He was a joy to watch and while he never reached the heights of some of his 80’s quarterback brethren, he’ll always hold a spot in our hearts. Whisperer Nation, stand at attention as we salute the greatness of former Air Force Academy quarterback … Mr. Michael “Dee” Dowis.
