COLLEGE
The Whisperer Remembers ... Ernest Anderson.
The Man Who Paved the Way
Stillwater, Oklahoma has spawned some of the nation’s greatest runners. There’s Thurman Thomas, the pride of Missouri City, Texas. He took his formidable tackle and ankle breaking style north to break tackles and ankles and broke the hearts of Longhorns, Aggies, and Sooners in the process, picking up right where he left off when he arrived up north.
The conversation about the greatest running back in college football history begins and in the minds of most, ends with Barry Sanders, the pride of Wichita, Kansas. Sanders was a video game talent before video games became the thing, and his runs still captivate and cause heads to shake all these years later.
But, before either of those men were ready to take on the title of… the man … this man was there, paving the way, laying the groundwork, making sure they knew the impossible was indeed possible. He never rose to the heights of his Cowboy brethren, and he was constantly overshadowed by the stable of runners that made their home 80 miles to the north in Norman, but this shooting star still shines bright in the eyes and hearts of the orange and black.
Whisperer Nation, wrap your ankles and wrists. Jump to your feet and prepare to succeed against all odds as we remember the pride of Orange, Texas… former Oklahoma State Cowboy tailback deluxe, the one and only … Mr. Ernest Anderson.
The Football Whisperer
One voice. No filler. The names stay off the masthead — the work doesn't need them.
