The Whisperer Remembers ... Rickey Foggie.
The Man with the Sweet Feet
The state of South Carolina churns out some pretty good football talent as quiet as it’s been kept, including quarterbacks. Back in the days, there was no more lethal a threat than this guy. He reached his senior year and was one of the most highly recruited option quarterbacks in the nation with offers from former Big 8 powers Oklahoma and Nebraska, the highest honor any high school option quarterback could receive. He said thank you but no and took his deft ball handling, fleet feet and elite leadership skills north…to the rough and rugged Big Ten.
When he arrived, he immediately made his presence felt, leading his squad to their first bowl game in nearly a decade during his sophomore season. He made his name running the option, but his arm was also a weapon and when called upon, he used it with precision, squeezing balls into places only guys in his colors could catch. It didn’t matter who the opponent was, could be the team in Maise and Blue, might be the one in Scarlet and Gray, made no difference. When they looked across the line and saw him they knew they were in for a long day.
The kid was a sight to behold so today Whisperer Nation let’s get a single file line going and give three cheers for the man who shied away from nothing and no one. The one, the only, the awe-inspiring … former Minnesota Golden Gopher quarterback … Mr. Rickey Foggie.
The Football Whisperer
One voice. No filler. The names stay off the masthead — the work doesn't need them.
