COLLEGE
The Whisperer Remembers ... Lance Jackson.
A Twelfth Man Indeed
Texas High School Football is unlike any other. California, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and a few others will lay claim to being as good or better, but the proof is in the gridiron pudding … and no pudding is sweeter than that found in the Lone Star State. Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s Temple, Texas had a batch that was about as good as it could get. In the backfield they had Brett Stafford who went on to star at Texas … Wayne Dawson, you remember him, he played out west at Texas Tech … Kenneth Davis, the former Heisman candidate from TCU … and this man …
His senior year the powerful Wildcats won the 1979 state championship, and his performance got him looks and sees from colleges from one end of the nation to the other … but he chose to stay close to home … and Gig’ Em. That’s right he stayed close, shunning all others and signing with Texas A&M. Shortly after arriving he switched to the defensive side of the ball and became a charter member of the vaunted Wrecking Crew— one of the fiercest defenses to ever walk the college football landscape.
He was part of the rebirth of Aggieland and during his tenure, the Aggies once again rose to a place of national prominence, annually vying for the Southwest Conference Title, ending their seasons highly ranked. No Aggie does it alone, it takes all 12 so today Whisperer Nation, stand to your feet and stay standing as we give a nice, long, loud yell … for former Texas A&M defensive back deluxe … Mr. Lance Jackson.
The Football Whisperer
One voice. No filler. The names stay off the masthead — the work doesn't need them.
