The Whisperer Remembers ... Mike Adams.
A Big Play Waiting to Happen
You can spot a baller a million miles away. He’s the one with the level head, playing it cool while all the guys on the other side are losing their minds, puking their guts, and sweating bullets. The baller is the one everyone, sometimes even the guys with the whistles and play sheet look to when tough times announce their arrival with no departure time in sight.
The baller, yeah, he’s the one who calms the storm, eases the fears, and makes a way out of no way. When this youngster arrived in Austin in the summer of 1992, it was clear to anyone with eyes, even those a million miles away that the burnt orange … had a baller. His tenure with the Longhorns was highlighted by near misses and what could’ve been endings, but there’s one we’ll never forget – the 1996 Big XII Championship Game against the vaunted Nebraska Cornhuskers. The whole world picked Big Red … but someone forgot to tell him and the boys from Austin.
Just like they had done so many times before, the Horns gave as good as they got … then they gave a little better, besting the Black Shirts and laying claim to the Big XII title. This man caught 6 for 92 that day and his game-breaking presence was never far from the minds of the Nebraska staff, causing defenders to lose their minds, puke their guts, and of course, sweat bullets. Whisperer Nation, stand at attention as we marvel at a baller … former Texas Longhorn WR supreme … Mr. Mike Adams.
