The Whisperer Remembers ... Tommy Hodson.
He Kept the Bayou Buzzing
Louisiana has always been a place where legends are born. Filled with mystery, mystique, and imagination, for my money, that state ranks at or near the top of the list when it comes to the most intriguing … and I’m just talking about football. When it comes to the old pigskin, the boot has its’ fair share of folklore, folk heroes, and guys folks just love cheering for on a sticky Saturday night.
We all know about Burrow and Daniel and the magic they brought to the bayou, but decades earlier, when those two were nothing more than mudbugs dream, this man lit the Baton Rouge nights up, seasoning the city with a Cajun meal week in and week out that left the natives clamoring for more.
No night exhibits his impact more than October 8, 1988, when on 4th and goal from the Auburn 10, he threw a frozen rope to Eddie Fuller, cementing the win, and his legacy. So frenzied were the LSU stands that night that their reaction registered a 2.1 on the Richter Scale in what came to be known as The Earthquake Game. That thrill was one of many and while many seasons have come and gone since, our hearts shake. Whisperer Nation, today, grab an armful of Beignets and a nice cup of French coffee as we celebrate the irrefutable greatness of former LSU Tiger signal-caller … Mr. Tommy Hodson.
The Football Whisperer
One voice. No filler. The names stay off the masthead — the work doesn't need them.
