Top 11 Things
Jalen, Justin, CJ, Quintrevion, Hartline, Herbert ... and 5 Other Things.
That 2027 recruiting class Texas is putting together kind of reminds me of the ones Alabama used to bring home, back when Saban roamed the recruiting trails and NIL was a passing thought.
Jalen Hurts will be out to silence a lot of his critics in Philly, in his locker room, and around the league. One way he can do that is just remember who he is. When the opportunity presents itself, run, and stop trying to fit into a box that others created for you.
It's time for Justin Herbert to become the player we keep hearing he is and I think this is the year he turns that corner. With McConkey, Johnson, and rookie Brenen Thompson in the receiving room, yeah, he's out of excuses.
Ohio State might have trouble continuing to be Wide Receiver U now that Brian Hartline has moved on to South Florida. A lot of his time was spent poaching the South Florida region and other parts of the country, luring top receiving talents to Columbus. Now that he's gone, things could get tight.
That Auburn-Alabama rivalry could sure use a reboot. It seems to have grown a bit stale to those of us on the outside, but on the inside, it might be as heated as ever. I tell you though a loss to Auburn might seal the fate of this Alabama coaching staff.
Cleveland won't say it now, but privately, I think they're happy to have moved on from Myles Garrett ... and happy to have given Garrett the chance to move on from them. A HOF career was being wasted, and a lot of others will be too if the Browns can't get that QB situation right.
Clemson needs to wear those all-purple uniforms more often. I'm not saying it'll help them win games and Lord knows they could use some help in that department, but everyone eats with their eyes ... including recruits ... hint, hint.
I'm interested to see how Quintrevion Wisner and CJ Baxter--two former highly touted Texas Longhorn runners do at Florida State and Kentucky respectively. I was surprised to see Wisner move on but felt like Baxter who started two years ago as a true freshman needed a change of scenery.
Arch Manning was on fire at the end of last year and it'll be interesting to see if he comes in hot this year. If he does, I don't see anything or anyone stopping the Longhorns march toward the CFP and possibly more.
Kyle Wittingham and Michigan just seem like they were made for one another. He needed to new address, and Michigan needed a breath of fresh air which is what he and his staff will bring to Ann Arbor ... still have to beat Ohio State though coach.
Detroit is going to miss David Montgomery. That one-two punch of Montgomery and Gibbs was a terror and now that the load will fall solely on Gibbs, I think by mid-season, the Lions will be wishing they had held on to the former Iowa State Cyclone.
