He was rugged, rough, tough, and all that stuff and durable … the kind of durable a defense hates. You know, the kind that gets stronger as the game gets longer as defenders get weaker and the bravado and machismo, the willingness to engage in physical contact wanes yeah, he was that kind of durable.

A splendid mix of cunning and football acumen, his steely resolve and unflinching running style defined a generation in Columbus. If you sent him up the middle, linebackers cowered. If he went wide, corners and ends grasped at air, swearing he was there, but his swift feet told a different tale. If he made it past the interior line … safeties prayed to God for mercy knowing full well that they were no match for who and what stood before them.
