The One Who Got Away

The Whisperer Remembers ... Blaise Bryant.

You see, some people got it all wrong. They think the only time Iowa State made noise was within these last few years when some guy named Campbell rebranded the squad with those cool black uniforms, packed houses, and sparkling won-loss records. Not to take anything away from him because the work he did warrants respect, deserves high praise, and will forever live in the hearts of Cyclones near and far … but this guy deserves recognition too.

The Big Eight, not the Big XII is where he did his work and oh my, did he ever do work. Back in those days the Sooners and Cornhuskers ruled the roost and they themselves boasted ground attacks, led by the kinds of backs that others throughout the conference and country would die for … but not Iowa State.

Not Iowa State because they had their own running back, a man who dotted their eye and posed a legitimate threat to take it the distance every single time he touched the ball. While his Cyclones teams never reached the heights of others, his presence is why those others reached their heights and for that alone, he deserves our respect.

Whisperer Nation, stand to your feet. Juke left, juke right, catch it out of the backfield and when you do take it all the way to the house as we celebrate the undeniable greatness of former Iowa State Cyclone running back supreme … Blaise Bryant.
